Description

Static Analysis Webinar

Advanced static-analysis tools have proven effective at finding serious programming defects. An unavoidable property of all such tools is that they may give warnings for code that is defect free (false positives). Some tools minimize false positives because users dislike them, but this gives their users a false sense of security because it also means that the tools will consequently fail to find many real bugs.

This talk discusses how to compute the real return on investment of these tools, and shows that the best choice is a tool that strikes a reasonable balance between finding more real defects, without reporting too many false positives.
