Before rolling out the HTML upgrade of it’s JD Edwards ERP software, specialist pharmaceutical company Norgine wanted to be assured it could cope with the day to day strain of 650 users. They called on SCL to perform the load testing.


Norgine, the ‘go to’ European specialist pharma company provides expertise and ‘know how’ in Europe to develop, manufacture and market products that offer real value to healthcare professionals, payers and patients.

Norgine relies on its JD Edwards ERP system to help run its business operations across its 16 offices. Norgine was due for an upgrade, but concerned that a hosted version would run too slowly on their systems.

Testing the waters

Norgine had previous issues with internet bandwidth across some of its offices, so they wanted to be assured switching from its client server-based JD Edwards system to the new hosted version would not slow down their business operations. Norgine’s team knew they needed to work with experts to identify potential performance issues and provide counsel on what adjustments they should make in order to maximise the software’s performance in advance of rolling out the new software.

After seeing a presentation about the load and performance testing SCL had carried out for them, Norgine reached out to the SCL team and engaged with them to test their systems before the big JD Edwards upgrade took place.

“To ensure the system would deliver optimal performance under the strain of hundreds of users at a time, we ran a number of testing scenarios and kept pushing up the user numbers,” said Jamie Lockhart of SCL. “We ensured that top priority functionality of the software such as order processing and stock levels could take the load of up to 400 concurrent users, which is well above the average.”

Results and future

The testing was successful and there were no hitches when Norgine switched from the old system to the new one. Norgine is pleased with the new, faster system which is being used by 650 of its around 1,000 employees and there have been no complaints or problems with its speed.

“SCL definitely delivered,” continued Gater. “Their due diligence meant that I was confident the ‘go live’ of the new version would run smoothly, even before we were up and running. SCL is now a part of our future upgrade strategy.”
